Overview
Since 2018, The Big Rock Mesas Fire Safe Council (FSC) has been recognized as a Firewise USA® site. Formed to educate their local community, they feature a robust educational program that includes Street Teams that help educate residents on how to protect their homes from wildfires. Annually, they clear a 200ft buffer around the entire community. They also enforce a 10ft buffer on all access streets and driveways in and out of Big Rock. FSC volunteers have attended a NFPA training session that enables them to conduct free Home Ignition Zone Evaluations of resident’s property and structures. Several residents have also completed CERT training. The Big Rock Mesas FSC is also in the process of developing Fire Brigades and a communications network.
Our mission is to maintain a buffer around our community and encourage residents to maintain their properties clear of flammables and harden their homes.
