Overview
Formed in 2010, we are the Topanga Canyon Fire Safe Council. Our efforts focus on (1) Safer Roadways: the removal of fire hazardous large-scale vegetation; (2) Wildfire Education: Community, Neighborhood and Mentoring programs; and (3) Safer Homes and Neighborhoods: Home Ignition Zone Evaluation Program. We have been awarded six grants and have brought over $365,000 into Topanga and the Santa Monica Mountains. In 2019 we were the recipient of an Edison International Grant (through CA FSC) that presented NFPA's Assessing Structure Ignition Potential 2-day class to over 140 mountain residents. As a result of this grant, there are now volunteer-based Home Ignition Zone Evaluation Programs in many high fire communities.
Our mission is to inspire and empower our community to mitigate the risks of fire to Topanga through collaboration, education, and the development of resources.
