2021 SFA Grant Award Announcement

California Fire Safe Council (CFSC) is pleased to announce nine projects have been selected for funding for the 2021 Grants Clearinghouse SFA Fire Prevention Program.

In total, the CFSC Grants Clearinghouse awarded $1.3 million dollars to support fuel reduction projects such as community chipper programs, fuel breaks, and roadside and defensible space projects, as well as projects to promote community engagement and the use of educational tools to spread the Fire Safe message .

21 SFA Grant Workshop Webinar Recording

The California Fire Safe Council (CFSC) is excited to announce the 2021 State Fire Assistance (SFA) competitive application process for wildfire prevention grants. Funding is provided through a master grant awarded to CFSC by the U.S. Forest Service, and is administered through CFSC’s Grants Clearinghouse program. CFSC will issue subawards to successful applicants that support fire risk reduction activities by landowners and residents in at-risk communities to restore and maintain resilient landscapes and create fire-adapted communities.  Projects may focus on one or more of the following categories:

• Fuel Hazard Mitigation vegetation treatments such as chipping, thinning, burning, or grazing.
• Community Hazard Mitigation Planning such as Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP’s), Firewise assessments, hazard assessments, and similar types of planning activities.
• Prevention and Mitigation Education such as outreach, mailings, workshops, events, PSAs, and other education programs.

Funding, Cost Share Requirement and Duration:

CFSC has approximately $1.3 million available for 2021 SFA wildfire prevention projects.

There is a dollar-for-dollar mandatory cost share for awarded grants. Federal SFA funding can account for up to 50% of the project’s costs, the remaining funds must come from non-federal sources and may include cash and/or third-party in-kind.
